Default Transmission chirp

Transmission chirp. I heard it today for the first time. Not loud. Soft. On upshifts. Parked the car drove it again a half hour later - no chirp. When I first heard it I turned the air and the radio off to make sure I was hearing right. It is not loud. Like someone else said, like a shoe slipping on a basketball court.

2006 with a little over 50,000 miles.

Did a search and saw that I am not the first.

Anything to be concerned about? Just drive it?

I have a Select Edition warranty til 2012. Bought two more years on top of that.

What do you think??

Thanks,

Jack

Cool Tsb

There is a TSB on the problem, but they recommend a lubrucant additive. I just took mine in to dealer for different problem and thought I'd take care of the chirp at the same time. They said the lubricant is n longer available from Jaguar and they didn't offer another solution. There are several posts that indicate a complet transmission oil change will take care of the problem. They say the transmission is sealed, every post I've read suggests a replacement at 60,000 mi. I'm only 10,000 away, so I guess I'll live with the chirp until I have the transmission fluid changed.

Uh, let me get this right... you're experiencing a problem, you've read what the cure is but you're going to continue driving the car another 10,000 miles before fixing it? And if the problem escalates into something not easily repaired (read:expensive) who will you throw rocks at because it was 'supposed' to be o.k. for another 10,000 miles?

Just wondering...

It's not detrimental to the transmission, so it's a question of how it sets with you as the driver. Is it a big enough irritant, or not? Actually, lots of folks do live with it. The repair is outlined in the attached bulletin, but it is excluded from Select Edition coverage as it is not actually a failure of a part.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Thanks Steve!!

The sound really does not bother me. If it was a symptom of something I should remedy to prevent a larger problem, I would be concerned.

Since it is not, I will drive it. The car is going to the dealer for other service within a month. I will mention it to the service writer. Your information really helps me understand what I am dealing with.

I bought the additive from Leith Jaguar in Cary, North Carolina less than a year ago. Maybe they just had some old stock. It's my understanding that the newer ZF fluid doesn't need the additive, maybe that's why it's no longer available.

Drove the car about 30 miles today without a chirp. Yesterday was the only day I heard it. Intermittent issue I guess.

Oh... the "DSC System Fault" warning came up while driving. Went away after shut down/start up.

I love this car. A bit like going into the fun house at the amusement park. Never know what is around the corner.

Still smiling.
