Default Transmission Fault

Hello All,
I’ve had an ABS, Trac fault light intermittently for a while, I had changed all the wheel sped sensors and that didn’t change anything. The car eventually started “ Stuttering “ when accelerating up the gears. Felt like one of the wheels grabbing.
I borrowed a Code reader and found the ABS Module had a fault. I bought a repaired one and installed it. Started the car all lights were extinguished, so I backed the car down the driveway and started a drive. About a mile down the road, I stopped for a stop sign, made a turn and begin accelerating. I think the shift from first to second is where the car “ stumbled again and I got a transmission fault warning. I turned around and went home. Now accelerating the car felt like a slipping clutch, more than usual revs and slowly accelerating. I turned the car off, waited a couple minutes and stated again. All is normal again, but I don’t want to drive and make things worse.
Thoughts?

Oh, by the way....2001 XK8 110,000 miles
Thanks, Jack

How old is your battery? Weak batteries can play havoc with these transmissions....

Bummer. Where did you get it fixed, and how much did it set you back?

Got it fixed at a Stop and Go Tranmission shop. Owner knows a lot of my good friends so I wasn’t to concerned about his integrity.
He had me come by while the transmission apart and showed me the damage. Total was $2800

Default USD2k+ Ouch!

Sorry to hear about the transmission repair cost.

Was your 2001 MY the ZF5HP24 gearbox? If so, it’s another in a long list of A Drum failures, a known weakness. ZF do an upgraded A Drum, which I presume your mechanic is putting in. Plenty of rebuild kits available and an upgraded PR valve too. Maybe a good time to overhaul the valve body too, including the solenoids. The F channel in the valve body case is known to crack too. Make sure you have an OEM filter as after market filters are known to “whine.”

I know he used the upgraded drum and new friction discs, but he still has the car. Some sort of leak after road test.
I’m 2000 miles away right now. Will pick up the car next week
