Guys, need your help.. My 97 has a strange problem. The gears seem to engage fine, but when first starting out... It will rev to like 3k before it starts moving, it does however.. After that happens, is goes into limp mode(with no spliping), but little power cause it feels like it's starting of in 3rd gear or something. The tranny is smooth and it's driving great on the highway..

I havechanged the tranny fluid(I thought it was low). It's still doing the same thing.. I know that the Code P1722 is for the stall speed and low fluid.. It feels like the stall speed. I have read that it could be the transmission Computer or a Sensor gone bad..

I'm about to buy another transmission, of an XJ8(will that work on my car??). I want to make sure I've explored every option before I have to buy another tranny. ANY help would be greatly appriciated.. ThANKS

Yes, the lights at the gate light up perfectly. And, I can "feel it engage" into drive at the D position. It feels the same if I also start it in the lower gears. It's almost as if the converter is not engaging.. But when it goes into limp mode, it goes.. even though it doesn't feel good cause it feels like its starting in 3rd gear.

 

They want to sell me a tranny.. I found a used one of an 98 XJ8 for a great price. But, I need to make sure.. Is there any thing else to check for??

ps. The place a had taken it to change the tranny fluid was aamco.. They didn't know what the codes meant..
