Default Transmission issues

Having issues with the transmission……transmission will go into reverse and drive before the transmission warms up. Once a transmission warms up the gears will not engage. Would I need to change out the transmission or is there any other component that I can change out prior to changing out the entire transmission. Plz help

Hmmm. Crystal ball is hazy.... hard to see...

Maybe a little more information? As @zray said, Year and car model. Also, mileage and what is known of the transmission service history. All of these are important if you want a reasonably intelligent answer.

Mine is an XKR, and uses a different transmission than your car does, but I do read on this forum that the 4.0 XK8 cars have a typical issue with the “A” drum going bad. You would have to do a forum search to find out what exactly the symptoms are for that particular problem.

Have you ever changed the ATF ? There’s a variety of issues that accompany low fluid or worn out fluid.

That's not too many. I'll assume you have no record of a service being done. If you have a code reader that will talk to the TCM it would be a good idea to scan the car and post any codes.

Regardless, I'd start by doing a fluid and filter change. The fill procedure is a bit difficult, but not impossible, if you don't have a lift. The 5HP24 trans has issues with premature valve block wear and cracking, but those problems present different symptoms.

BTW, by "the gears will not engage" I assume you mean that the gearshift lever selects the gears properly, but all that happens is the engine revs and the car remains still. Is that correct?

Change the transmission fluid and filter or at least make sure its topped up...engine running plug out and try adding some Dr Tranny. dont spend big bucks until you spent the small ones.

Sounds to me like the Upper valve block is cracked, and while cold, the pressure is suficient, when hot too much escapes as the oil thins out a bit!
However I may well be wrong, but seems logical!
