Default Transmission Problem

Having problems with a 2004 XK8. Occasionally get a gearbox fault warning and car will stick in one gear. Stop and turn the key off and back on and it goes back to normal. OBD scan says 3-4 Shift solenoid problem. Anyone else had this happen?

Give the codes. It helps to diagnose instead of guess.

How old is your ATF and what type is it? How many miles on the vehicle?

Search this forum for "ZF 6HP26 Drive Cycle Adaptations procedure" and read up on it. Fresh ATF and this procedure may be in your near future....

The code is P0783 for 3-4 shift solenoid. It's worse when cold. If it reads gearbox fault, I can restart the car and it goes back to normal. I'm having the transmission fluid and filter changed first to see if that helps.

Address the root of the problem before changing the fluid.
Personally, I'd go right to a transmission shop and let them do an advanced code read.

Here's a better description of the code you're pulling:

That's my plan before getting the fluid changed. They have already said they could link up with Jaguar USA and diagnose the problem.

Thanks!!
