So a tree fell onto the Jag in the storm yesterday! From what I can see it's totalled the front wing and bonnet but the engine bay, suspension and wheel seem to have been spared. I can't open the driver's door and have not started her up although all the dash lights and nav screen illuminate. Going to have to be low loaded to repair shop I think. Hopefully insurance will pay out.
Not happy
Sorry to hear this. Looks like a fairly straightforward repair. I hope your insurance company don't make things difficult.
It certainly was a wild night. I was expecting my garage to disappear but in the end it was only a few roof slates on the house smashed and my Porsche Cayenne sideswiped by a wheelie bin. Cayenne 1, wheelie bin 0.

Thanks Graham - the insurers are snowed under after the storms - I called Adrian Flux and waited an hour to speak to an agent who was lovely and said she has dealt non-stop with fallen tree claims since 7am. The tree guy who attended had been up since 2am. I hope they will agree the claim - the car is stock ummodified which should help 🤞

It being modified shouldn't change anything, I know how insurance companies can be though. It's not like if the car was modified the tree would have missed the car
Well so far so good. Spoke with insurers (LV) at 8am they've accepted the claim and arranging for recovery and repair at a local body shop only a couple of miles away. I'm guessing new wing and just maybe bonnet repair but 🤞
Fingers crossed. I hope it works out well for you. I'd say what are the odds, but we're Jaguar owners so we already know. If all that was hurt is your wallet, then you're blessed, lucky or both.
I was pleasantly surprised to see full front wings and bonnets in good nick.(certainly good enough for a body shop to fettle into as new condition) for a couple of hundred sovs on eBay. I've got an agreed £650 excess with max protected NCB so 🤞should work out.
So the car is being recovered to the body shop tomorrow but even before they have set eyes on it (although they have had loads of photos) the dreaded "might have to write it off " has been mentioned over the phone! My insured value is £8000 and having done a quick search on Parkers and Autotrader that seems right in the ball park value (accepting insurers will work on trade price not forecourt price.
Mine is a 2001 with 78,000 miles and until this incident I would rate it as in very good condition.
Any advice if the insurers do push back on repairing?
Are you on the PistonHeads forum? There's a guy Twig something or other who works in insurance and will probably offer UK specific advice.
I had clients who worked with claims like this and from the get go I was thinking write off I'm afraid. I suspect you may have to consider taking the write off money - which I assume is £8k if you have insured value cover - buying it back for a pittance and fixing it yourself and ending up with a Cat N car. But let's hope I am completely wrong! I didn't realise the XKR sold for quite so much.
If you are original or even 2nd owner and kept the interior in great condition, I would seriously consider paying a difference out of pocket to fix it. What is getting rare is finding a one owner XKR in this year range. Here in US, $10k(8k pound) would be insulting, but tell them you will take the £8k for repair and keep the car as you own it, not them (and just think how much insurance has already earned off premiums for years) These XKR are worth minimum $11k(£9k), easily $15k(£13k) if one owner under 80k miles and interior still like new. A body shop will purchase this from insurance auction for under $5k(£3.5k?) and put a couple thousand into it to keep or give to a family member as a cheap and really cool car. Resale would be terrible with total loss reported and salvage title. Forgive my USD figures but value of dollar is steadily sinking with every fake election here so -2k should do it.

If its your tree then your insurance pays ..if its the council they pay and a neibour they pay ( third party liability)
Looks an easy DIY repair ..wings are on e bay.

Unfortunately, it's not that straightforward.
Yes, my insurers (LV) have (so far) admitted liability - the car was actually recovered to one of their approved body shops this morning.
Now is when it gets complex. Insurers have to repair the damage to "as good as new" status that means using genuine OEM parts. They will then assess how much it will costs to repair as a percentage (approx 60%) of the current value. That value is the current trade price. In many of these situations as per drmike's earlier post they will deem it not economically viable to repair to these exacting standards or it may not be possible to as parts are not available. They can then declare it a category N write off or if unroadworthy a category A or S write off (https://www.carwow.co.uk/guides/choo...c-or-cat-d-car and https://www.car.co.uk/media/guides/i...category-n-car).
I suspect they will declare this a category N write off as original body panels etc are no longer available. However, the guy who collected the car today did say my insurer occasionally sanctions using old parts in which case there are several candidates on eBay for £200 ish.
If they don't go for this and offer me cash then I have the option to buy it back and get another body shop to fix at my expense - annoyingly the guy who usually does these jobs for me is away until after Christmas .
