Talking two XKR problems

I have two xkr problems

Morning all.

(I have finally put this post in the correct forum.)

I have just bought a 99 XKR, and it has a few small problems that I am hoping you can help me with.

1/ When I open either door the window drops about 1", but when I close the door it does not go back up. So, when I open it again the window drops another inch, and so on. Can anyone suggest what is causing this?

2/ At the very front of the engine is a cylinder with "HELLA" written on t. As soon as I turn on the ignition this cylinder starts to make a whining noise, and continues to do so until I switch the ignition off again. As Hella make lighting equipment I assumed this cylinder was something to do with the headlights, so I turned the lights on, this alters the pitch of the whine. I should point out that at some point the car has been fitted with an aftermarket xenon kit. Can anyone tell me what this cylinder is and what I need to do?

Apart from that I am well pleased with the car, it is only the second car that I have owned, the first was a 4x4, so this is a massive change for me.
If you can help me sort out these two small issues it will turn this great car into my dream car and make me smile like an idiot for the rest of my days.
Thanks in advance, Karl.

Strange window operation and other electrical issues are a sure sign of a failing battery.

Can't comment on the headlight question.

Post a pic and if the window does it again, take apart the connector in between the door and frame(between hinges). Clean and reinstall sometimes you end up with lite corrsion that causes a loss of battery power to the door module, effectivly erasing the widow memory. And if it does it past then the door module it bad

Default Pics of the pump

Hi again
Here is a pic of the Hella pump that is whining. It is mounted on a body at the front of the engine bay on the drivers side. It has a pipe that runs up to either side of the supercharger.

The whining starts as soon as the ignition is on and does not change volume or pitch with enine speed.

If you could let me know what this is and why it is whining that would be great.

Many thanks
Karl

Yep intercooler pump, depends on how loud its whining. You can try a water wetter that additional has seal and pump lubrication and does a good job of lower coolant temps. Redline and other make water wetters that increase surface contact, by reducing water tension in the coolant passages. Much like stopping soda bubbles from sticking to the side of a glass. But you probobly need to flush the coolant system and maybe just change the pump after you do.

Thanks Bruce.

I think I will go straight for a new pump, the whine is quite loud.
Good site this. I have belonged to forums before but they seem to attract people who read posts but do not (or can not) offer any help.

Yep, you've just described about 95% of us here, me included. It's the 5% that really keeps us from looking like real doofuses.
