Unable to put my XK8 in Gear....sometimes?
Lately I've had problems getting my car to shift out of park. I'm not on a incline that would effect shifting so I assume there is a switch that may need to be replaced??
Thanks in advance for your help!

Getting out of park requires your foot to be on the brakes. There is an interlock solenoid under the top/left of the shift surround. When it works you can hear/feel a slight thump. There is a plastic plug you can remove to bypass this interlock as needed.
Normally, this is a symptom of a problem brake switch (very common problem). It is a bit of a challenge to replace for some, but the part can easily be rebuilt from cheap component switches with basic soldering skills. The new part is a bit pricy but not out of reach. If the brake switch is confirmed OK (check your brake lights!), then it can be a bad solenoid (much less common, AFAIK). Don't rely too much on a cold test of the brake switch as these have a way of failing on the sometimes schedule, and never when you have a meter to test them.
Best of luck, keep us posted.
