what can cause tires to wear on the inside? I need to find/fix this, these are fairly expensive tires.

Alignment issues: negative camber or toe-out could do it. Either way an alignment check is in order.

Good luck.

Bad lower ball joints can cause this also and it won't always show up on an alignment.

If shock mount bushings have deteriorated, there is not enough adjustment to do an alignment within specs as the front end sits too low.

Just to add to the list of possible causes, worn lower wishbone bushes can also cause this.

This trashed my tires in less than 1k miles, I was advised that they were a problem at my MOT and that I should get them replaced, I did the job myself 4 weeks later by which time the inner edge was down to the canvas.

I just had this exact same problem. The cause was worn/perished upper and lower wishbone (control arm) bushings, anti-sway bar bushings and lower ball joints. I bought them all from Rock Auto and gave them to my mechanic to install. After replacing them, I got two lightly used tires, then an alignment.

To those of you who have had to deal with ball joint / wishbone / bushing issues ruining your tires, did you experience premature tire wear on all four tires? Just the front tires? Just the rear tires?

Only the front tires were negatively impacted, but I got a four-wheel alignment when all fixes were complete.

Take your car along for a free tracking check and I bet your camber is really out. First thing I would suspect is your bushes. Look up Powerflex. I have used them before and they have a lifetime guarantee, they do in the UK anyway.
