Default Upper Control Arm Mount Bolt - Jaguar (MJA1455AD) subs?

Hi guys, figured I'd save time in case I either damage or intentionally cut this bolt (see other thread on frozen bolt.

I'm writing this because more than 1 respected member indicates that ir can be replaced for $20 or $30. I just looked in many places. Best price I could find is $60. Plenty of places want up to $90 for this 1 bolt!

Should I maybe be looking for grade 8 carriage bolt alternatives? Did those of you who bought it for those low prices buy OEM bolts?

If I've gotta pay the price then that's that, but I figured is ask.

Thanks as always,

John

Wow, wow, wow - never expected that! IMO they are usually um, expensive (nice people though).

Thanks Michael!

I also saw that these bolts are VERY expensive when I was shopping for front strut parts. I contacted a local bolt/tool manufacturer about making a corrosion proof alternative but I haven't received a reply yet. I'll try a few more and see if I can find anyone willing to make a better alternative to these OEM bolts. At this point it's only an idea.

John there is a hardware lot from a breaker on ebay that I can see two of these bolts in the pile.

For less than $50 you can have the lot and gain some other spares in the process.

Well thank you Rothwell. I made an offer, lets see if it lands.

This reminds me of the stories I've heard right here of folks finding someone selling tools designed and built solely for X100 maintenance. That'd be nice to find someday. I think my 1st choice would be the tool to take the speed sensor disk out of a front hub. Knock on wood but I'll be replacing the front bearings again someday :-).

Always glad to help John. I had seen a lot like that posted before but the asking price was over $100 so it was over my budget to buy for future spares. At under $50 I would have considered buying that lot if I was not going to sell my XK8.

You might be thinking of my lucky find about 6 years ago when I got the whole set of OEM tools to do the front bearings. The set I bought had only been used on one car. The seller was about 70 miles from me. I got the whole set for $7.50 (nobody else bid on them) the price I found out later was the sellers estimate if sold as scrap (about 80 lbs of steel). I also got the printed instructions that came with the tool set. Back then when I priced the set it was about $800 worth of tools. I have yet to use them. I even have the new bearings on hand. Just waiting for a reason to do such a job like a bearing or lower control arm bushing failure. Now that I am going to sell the XK8 I will sell this tool set but the weight is problematic for shipping. And I am going to want a lot more than $7.50 for sure.

I attached the instructions. It does list the tools' part numbers.
