Are the Eurospare ones any good? Moss sell the Eurospare ones. Berkjshire Jag also sell one but they don't state who makes it, lots of places sell them I think they are made from Urathane. They can't be that bad if everyone is selling them even Jaguar specialists like xk8-parts.

As far as l am aware they are all made from polyurethane but they are a skinning foam type. I have seen and used this before but l do not believe it is capable of the load bearing required, good for archery targets, not so good as a spring isolator.

Agreed! I'm just about to replace my 6 month old conventional shock tops purchased from Berkshire with @baxtor cast versions. My decision was based on the fact that one of my shock absorber shafts had moved from its central position to within a centimeter of the edge of the mount in a few weeks. I was able to easily recentre it by using a socket on the nut. This demonstrated the inadequate material used on these supposed OEM types. It was already under stress with barely a few hundred kms driven. Save your time and money and source the solid polyurethane ones if you can.
When I look at the top of the mounts it’s all black “rubber”. I don’t see any yellow foam. Any idea which mounts I have?
possibly welsh, rishi. Either that or poly bushes have been fitted previously.
The mounts can be identified to an extent by a top plate measurement.
nb.I have sent you a PM Rishi re order.
I "upgraded" to the Welsh ones and they disintegrated not long after. Started finding chunks of black rubber on the garage and wondered where from. Shocks both badly off center at the top. Nor did I like the ride, expected a firmer ride based on urethane upgrades to my other cars but these gave a harsh ride.
Called Welsh and they said they have had problems with the formulation in hot climates and sure enough, I live in Texas. But this is an occasional driver that is always garaged so not really buying it. They said they are out of stock since having a new formulation done but now will cost double, $300/pair. I am looking elsewhere.
I've been following the seemingly endless discussions about upper shock mounts for these cars since I have needed to replace mine for some time. What amazes me is that it is so difficult to come up with a hunk of material that basically just sits there.
All,
I replaced the upper mounts in my 98 convertible shortly after purchase at 47,000 miles. I got uros, I reused the original steel parts with the new cushion because the new mounting bolts were painted thickly. Now at 102,000 they are starting to go again. What I want to know is, why is the bushing part of the unit alone not available? Unless you damage the bolt threads, it's just the bushing one needs. I see they are available that way for the rear. I've looked at places like powerflex and found that part not for sale. Missed opportunity.

It's not difficult, but l think you hit on both the problem and the answer with "material that just sits there"
Material matters most of all and having it "just sit there" also matters, because of design thats what does NOT happen in the mounts commonly offered for sale.

Wayne solved it (member cjd777). Baxtor also contributed with him.
I have had them in my car for nearly 2 years and 9k miles on harsh PR roads and they have been flawless.

I doubt it gets hot enough here nor in Texas to harm quality polyurethane. My poly bushes are heat cured at 60 and sometimes 100 degrees Celcius. This increases their already excellent heat resistance, l can only imagine the poly being used in the welsh mounts is inferior or somebody is just throwing excuses at the wall looking for one that sticks.
Contact Wayne to arrange for a pair of his custom shock mounts. Problem solved and case closed....
I will to have a set for next time. I saved the Welsh mounts I removed for him to rebuild...you can see how bad it was in the pic below.
It would be good to post here for all to know approximate turn around time.
Hi everyone, in response to your feedback about URO Parts Upper Shock Mount MJA2170BD being too soft and collapsing prematurely, we have increased the bushing durometer by 42% to better support the weight of the vehicle. The updated polyurethane bushing material is a pumpkin orange color, making the new mounts easy to identify. This running change was made about 14 months ago, so at this point retailers should be stocking the new version, even if the photos on their website still show the yellow version.
Please feel free to contact us with suggestions and feedback anytime using the Contact Us page at apaindustries.com, thanks!
Seems Baxtor and Wayne have only limited resources and found a material of the proper durometer and long lasting material. This was a long time ago and both the URO,and Welsh mounts failed to perform as intended. Seems to me "The Proof is in the Pudding" , world wide availability on Wayne & Baztor, what not to like?
