The ones that were on the car (looks like there are about 7 or 8 attachments total) are clearly a slightly larger size u-nut. The only way I could have used the one you referred to was to grind away some of the plastic or elongate the hole. The alternative one that the parts guy had was about 1/8" longer in terms of where the hole lined up which made it a perfect alignment.

I took a pic quickly showing the type I use, these are the same as fitted at factory as supplied by Jaguar using the part number I gave you, again I am unsure why they would be different?

Here's a pic of 2, each showing a side against a rule so you can get an idea of size.

The ones that were in place on the car looked just like yours in basic appearance. The one I bought based on the part number you supplied also looked exactly the same in terms of type but a hair smaller than the ones on the car. I should have removed one of the nuts that were on the car and held it next to the one I bought to see for sure but to my eye (also the parts guy) we both agreed that the ones on the car looked a bit larger than XR87652. Then again maybe the hole in the bumper was in the wrong place which might explain why this was the only attachment (out of the 7 or 8 total) that was missing.

Would 'Whole' be an appropriate noun of collection for a bunch of Dougs?

I also noted some screws went missing on my 2002 X-type.

After reading the above, I went to our local shop - Autozone, in Houston, and the sales was very helpful and showed me the GM BODY GRILL/BUMPER RETAINERS (461030A, bar code 76369 46103). It is plastic, $3.50 with tax for 2. Just push it in, it will open and fits well. It supposed to be retrievable.

Hope the info will help others in the future.

I used 6mm machine screws and nylon lock nuts. I don't trust plastic fasteners.
