Valet
I found a button market valet next to a little compartment. I pressed it and I was expecting a 12" person to exit the comparment and start cleaning the inside of the car?
What went wrong.

You live in Surrey - that's what went wrong.
If you lived in Los Angeles - you would drive to a restaurant and when you press the valet button, an extremely photogenic out of work actor will suddenly appear and offer to park your car for you. If you give him the "special" valet key (green top), he/she can drive your car, but doesn't have access to the cocaine in your glove compartment, or the assault rifle in your trunk. (You don't have a boot in LA)
Edit - the little compartment is for your sun glasses which are also redundant in Surrey except for one day a year.
Simples !!

Sounds like new owner has no Owners Manual . . . we won't mention the other possibilty . . . in which case JaguarForums has you well covered. Plenty of resources here in the "Stickys" at top of section. Also, don't overlook the companion sections for similar era Jaguars like the S-Type and XJ saloons . . . oops, sedans; no grog allowed here . . . not even for 12" tall leprechauns who moonlight as car cleaners!
Cheers,
Ken
