Default Value of my 2001 XKR Silverstone?

Greetings!
I am considering selling my 2001 XKR Silverstone Coupe with 16k miles. Original owner. Seems like it only gets pulled out, washed and returned any more-- literally showroom new condition.
What do you think it should list for?

Thank you.
John

Check prices on Kelly Blue Book and NADA as a starting point.

KBB has no data for XKR Silverstone Coupes.

13.000 usd.
But showroom condition to one person might be in average condition to another.
It would also help to give the mileage.

The US has much higher values for these cars than abroad. I would rate it quite a bit higher in value, more in the $16k range; and that range is the price I'd list to sell it like a hotcake covered in crack. If I didn't already have an XKR, I'd be happy to buy at that price all day long; but if I were selling, I'd want 18-19k and hold until I got it.

All of this is based on if this car has perfect service records showing proper maintenance; which in this case, fluid changes based entirely on periods of time rather than mileage. It'd better have the timing chain tensioners addressed too.

Dealer offered $16k as a trade in. Cannot part with it for $16,000.

This car has 5,500 miles on it >> Original owner! Is in absolute showroom new condition. Heated garage. All service records.

Any thoughts?

16k for trade is meaningless as value guide. That number is not real money but money on paper. The dealer could be adding money into trade instead off of new car....numbers game.

18/19k tops and that would be to someone who just must have it...

11 year old car...low mileage of 5,500 can actual be a deterrent to potential buyer since car was driven only 500 miles a year ...

The downside is that anyone who are unable to pay cash will have some difficulty financing the car, while a cash buyer may prefer a later model.

Unfortunately, the seller of a car cannot sell a car based on what I would call "emotional value." The final price is still determined what someone is willing to pay. I have learned this lesson may times!

There are currently two convertibles on ebay.. One is at a dealer for $20K with 73k miles, and the other is a private sale for $26k with 15k miles. I would watch those to see what they sell for, and research older listings.

If you are not in a hurry to sell, you have a better chnace of a higher price.

Have a look at these threads

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...l-owner-79789/

And

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...es-sale-73886/

Is a Silverstone more desireable than a 100? Hard to say...

But the "time capsule" effect is also worth noting, that '04 XJR with 1700 miles on it only went for $25.5K, a considerably newer car too.

Of course private sales are always less than dealer prices.

Just some food for thought.

St Pat,
Not all is lost Here's the book values for full dealer retail from Kelly's and NADA with your zip code
Kelly's Blue Book retail for a dealer is $41,439 for a Silverstone Coupe with 5000 miles.
Nada List only the convertible under classic and exotics, never asked for the mileage, so you would have to consider probably the high retail, again dealer asking prices.
low retail $21,500, average retail $28,300, high retail $37,800
I would not expect to get these prices considering they are dealer retail and dealers do have a margin to work with. What most people don't consider is the Silverstones are a limited edition with only 232 shipped to the U.S. approx 200 are convertibles the rest coupes. Realistically a 2001 XKR with the same options listed in Kelly's is $19,077 I would consider a Silverstone would be worth a bit more. The only problem is finding a buyer who willing to pay. A Silverstone convertible went for $25,000 at a Mecum Auction not to long ago plus the commission was added to that. That may be another option for you.

My friend just sold his 01 XKR w/58k for $18,000 and it was showroom condition. I see XKR's going for crazy money at dealerships.

Rule #1 of buying/selling unique cars is to never get one or trade one at a dealership.

Rule #2 is NEVER break rule #1.

I appreciate your help. Here is a link to autotrader listing to a ragtop with 15k miles, he's asking $27,000 for a 2001:
1. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=19425&endYear=2006&modelC ode1=XKR&showcaseOwnerId=3771729&startYear=2000&ma keCode1=JAG&listingType=used&searchRadius=0&showca seListingId=323204380&listingId=313710316&Log=0
2. I attempted to get into Keith Martin's Sports Car Market database for auction data, as you raise a good point of the Mecum sale

John, if your car is as stated you have a real gem that should command a higher price. I would set aside any negative chatter and allusions to other Silverstone Coupes that do not compare, miles and condition, to your XKR. If I had an empty bay in the garage I would be headed up your way for a serious talk on purchasing the car. Yes, some XK8/XKRs are selling for ridiculous prices, but in the main they are not like the car you describe. If you are not hurting for cash I would hold out for the price the car deserves. When I went hunting for my 2005 Coupe there were a few deals out there that looked really good. But once I had an expert check them out it was apparent they were dogs. You have four points in your favor: low mileage, Silverstone exclusivity, original ownership and vehicle condition. The car should sell for in excess of 20K and 20K would be sweet deal for anyone looking for an above average Silverstone XKR Coupe.

Good Luck

Tim

LOL... As a used car dealer I had to laugh at that statement.

Your friend is the luckiest man alive. I just bought an 01 XKR with 73k miles at the highline aution in Manheim Pa for ... wait for it. $8300.

An 06 XKR coupe, with 42k silver over black, did 18,600 today at Manheim NJ.

Will he get more on the private market sure... BUT, I think the numbers being kicked around are on the high side, EVEN by the dealer willing to trade it.

Take care,

George

If you don't need the money on the sale, just keep it as an investment. Like all 'classics', the car will start to increase in value as less become available on the market. Yours sounds like a perfect example.

If it were 2003 or higher, then over $20K. Yours is probably better than the day it was delivered, but is not going to command the price we all think it should.

If you waited for the right buyer, then I'd say $23K. But that's not going to happen unless you spend a lot of time marketing it.
