Default Valve cover gasket

Hi , I found out that I need to replace my vavle cover gaskets. It's a 1999 XK8 4.0. I checked and during 99 they changed the seals, some were connected and some were unconnected. They needed the engine #. can anyone tell me where to find the # . I have already looked at the obvious places. thanks

I believe both the individual and connected seals will work. Check with your local auto parts store for a set of FelPro valve cover gaskets to fit the '00 - '02 Lincoln LS 3.9L, also the Ford Thunderbird 3.9L. At below $40 they will be about a third of the cost of the Jaguar boxed ones. Same engine.

Info I have shows the changeover to the separate seals starting with engine number 9810290001 (Oct , 1998). If your '99 was actually built in '99 (see the door jamb) I'd say chances are you have one of the new ones.

Supposedly the engine number is hard to find /read...but I have never tried personally. A dealer can look up your VIN and identify your engine number though.

It might be just as easy to pop a valve cover and see which seals you have if you want to be 100% sure.

Cam cover seals changed along with the AJ26 to AJ27 move and, yes, you are on the cusp with a 99.

One way to ID the correct cam cover set is to look for the VVT position. If the solenoid protrudes from the top of the cam covers you need the AJ27 set which is black and has separate spark plug seals. If the solenoids protrude from the front of the cylinder heads, then you need the AJ26 cam cover seal set, red/blue in color with connected spark plug seals.

These are NOT interchangeable. The seal groove in the AJ26 cam cover is much wider than the AJ27 and the spark plug seal gooves will not be moulded to accept separate seals.
