Valve shim changing tool ?

Valve shim changing tool ?
Has any one who has done valve shims ever determined if a valve shim changing tool like used by Toyota etc... could be used to press in the bucket to change a shim? I have one ticking cylinder and I want to investigate all I can before I pull the cam out if I discover a shim needs to be changed.
