Variable valve timing solinoid
Howdy Folks!!...
My "Check Engine" light came on after I had my "Chain Tenssiones" done (1998 XK8). Pulled the code and came up with "P1396". Since I know my local Ford Dealership, and I know that the Jag and Lincoln engines are simular, I had then check it out. Found out that both "solinoid pins" were bent, and the units were no longer operable. Looks as if I'll be giving I'll be giving Dan from Jagbits a little call for new ones. I don't know if the outfit that did my tenssioners put them on wrong or not. But I doubt I'll ever get a straight answer from them. Oh well...something else I wopun't have to worry about down the line...
Drive On!!

One more reason to work on the car yourself.
I would at least make an effort to straighten the pins. It would seem pretty obvious that your repair folks bent them as they had to remove the connectors to remove the valve covers.
