Very Particular Noise
Hey guys,
I have done some extensive searching, but I don't feel like I have found someone describe exactly what I am experiencing.
I have a very loud creaking noise (like nails on a chalk board) coming from my passenger upper shock mount area. It is not RPM or speed dependent, just subtle up/down movements of the suspension.
I pulled the black cap off of the upper shock mount, and the foam looks fine to me. Its not super dusty or anything.
When I discovered this was the area, I actually sprayed WD-40 and white lithium grease directly onto the upper part of the spring (in the wheel well) and the squeak went away. After that stuff wears off, it will come back.
It only happens when the car is hot and has been driven for a while. If I let it sit for a day or two, it wont be there the next time I drive.
Anyone experience this recently? I hope its an easy DIY.
Thanks,
-Ryan

Ryan,
You've really answered your own question by isolating the noise to the front suspension and proving lubricating provides a temporary fix.
It's likely to be either the Upper Mounting ((item 7):

or possibly a cracked spring.
