Default Weighed my XK8

Had to go to the city dump the other day for a minute. i know Not the place for a Jag but the entire entrance road is clean and far from the actual landfill. Anyway they let me drive up on the scale and after subtracting my weight, gasoline, and odds and ends in the glove box it came out to

3840LBS

A little heavier than i thought, but good to know. Anyone else weigh theirs?

2001 XK8 convertible

Yes, not XK8 but I have an agricultural weigh bridge not too far away that I can use.

And for personal weighings I go to the Vet's. (don't have any animals but hey!)

That seems about right. I thought the convertible was a little closer to 4000 pounds.

The manufacturers weight of the following
2001 XKR Convertible 3850 lbs.
Coupe 3608 lbs.
2001 XK8 Convertible 3751 lbs.
Coupe 3553 lbs.
2004 XKR Convertible 3995 lbs.
Coupe 3817 lbs.
2004 XK8 Convertible 3905 lbs.
Coupe 3707 lbs.
You're right Ohio the later models are heavier. on the average about 150 lbs. I'm wondering where they added 150 lbs. at.

There's a joke in there somewhere.
I'm wondering why the convertible is heavier than the coupe. Stiffeners?

Convertibles are almost always heavier than their coupe brethen, because the top, opening/closing mechanisms and stiffeners all add up to more weight than a simple hardtop.

Kind of bugs me a bit why car manuafctures design cars back to front! Why design a car with a roof, then chop it off and then have to add a few girders to stop the thing turning into a jello. Why not do what the Japs do, they design a convertible, then simply add a roof to it, the weight changes very little as the coupe does not require the mechanism to make it work.

I am sure it is an accountants fault some where along the line

"Japs" - Really? Haven't we evolved since WWII?

EDIT: Well, it looks like the use of the word is different in the UK, according to the wonderful Wikipedia:
Jap is an English abbreviation of the word "Japanese." Today it is generally regarded as an ethnic slur, although English-speaking countries differ in the degree to which they consider the term offensive. In the United States, Japanese Americans have come to find the term controversial or offensive, even when used as an abbreviation.

Really???? I never knew that, I guess the same applies to Pakistani over here, they often get called Pakis which is seen as a derogatory term, but Jap is perfectly acceptable.

I apologise for any racial descrimination anybody might of felt it was not intended as so.

it's easier and faster to design a hardtop and so it is on the market faster making the companies money. Plus it can be sold in all climates. After the "new" model is making some money then they can put r+d into a convertible.
so the answer is $$$$$$$, as usual. Anyway, i should state that my car was totally ready for the road when weighed. Spare tire, jack, manuals etc. Not sure if these items are included in the factory published weights. Maybe my cars just a little fat

As a Brit, I can confirm that the term 'Jap' is not really offensive in the UK. Probably less offensive than referring to a French person as a frog

I never heard anyone in the US complain about the word "Jap" until just a few years ago. "Nip" was considered the derogatory term, while Jap was simply an abbreviation. Perhaps the word has been hijacked by the P.C. brigade, like so much else of our culture.

No you can't.

The true test is to ask someone of Japanese origin resident in the UK.
