Well, I was rear-ended on the way home...
from work yesterday. Guy had to have been doing 15 to 20 miles an hour when he hit me. It smushed his front end completely, and pushed his engine down and back. He was driving a Chrysler, don't remember the exact model - it was a mid-size. The hood on the Chrysler was in a V shape. His airbag deployed - basically his piece-o-$hit car was probably totaled.
My rear bumper is toast, and it bent the piece in that extends between each rear quarter panel. Pushed my right exhaust towards the front of the car, and out of the rubber hanger - I could not pull it forward so the pipe must be bent somewhere. My "boot" lid doesn't appear to be damaged. Underneath the bumper, there is a cover which I think insulates the trunk recess area - that's broken/cracked. It is evident to the naked eye that my passenger rear quarter panel has been moved out away from my trunk lid, because the gap between the trunk lid on the left (drivers) side is much closer than the passenger side. That may be because the piece between them was pushed in and moved it farther out. I think what may have happened when he hit me is that his front end when under my rear bumper somewhat. I think this may have saved most of my rear end, and could account for why his front end and engine compartment was so damaged.
I have a question: Obviously my car, now that it has been wrecked, is not worth what it was before. It has sufferred depreciated value due to the accident. Does anybody know how to compute just how much depreciation can be attributed to the accident?
Here's a picture of his car...

RE: Well, I was rear-ended on the way home...
after doing some research on repairing my XKR, I have found out that XK's prior to 05 have steel sub-frames. With 05 and after, they are aluminum.
Apparently, the aluminum subframes are supposedly 48% stronger than the steel sub-frames. Also, the aluminum subframes make the car lighter and stiffer, giving better fuel economy and handling.

Not only is the frame on your car better than the Chrysler so is the thickness of the body metal. Thats part of what you pay for. Go up to any chevy, buick, chrysler and press on thier fenders and than press on any Jag, Mercedes, BMW there is a difference. So our cars can take a better hit.
Good luck with the repair.
