Default What is leaking into the trunk??

I noticed on my just purchased 2001 XK8 convertible 51K miles that there is some sticky fluid in the bottom of the trunk under the battery. There are some drops on the garage floor. Could it be leaking from the pump area and if so is this a major repair? Any help is much appreciated.

I should change my status to junior member. I always jump and then look!
Hey it could have been that diet cola/pop the prep guy spilled in the trunk prior to you picking up the car. Dry cola is the worst kinda sticky.

It could be a hyd fluid leak from the pump area that is just above the battery or if it is leaking from just in front of the rear tire it is more than likely a roof lift that is leaking. I say leaking rather than failure is because the cylinder will continue to work as it is leaking.

The fliud is clear and is very sticky. It is under the panel that the battery sits on so I cannot tell if it is just from something that spilled?
If it is hyd fluid I will have it checked out.

if that much leaked out to pool under your battery, your hydraulic top reservoir should show very low, check that first. If its between high and low marks, check that off your list. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that previous owner spilled something in your trunk, and only surface cleaned it... not going deeper under the battery. I mean...would you?

if you're talking about the gray carpeting covering the cd-changer/Nav unit location, it simply pulls down and out (easier if you remove the battery cover as well)
