Default What is this long piece on an XK8 called?

I actually found them on Ebay... how hard of a job and what is needed to replace this long chrome horizontal bar, in between the two vertical splitters? Mine is cracked.

It's called a SPLITTER VANE - Part Number HJA6451BC for your MY. See item 10:

(click on the image to enlarge it)

To remove and replace it without damage, the Front Bumper has to come off. Then remove the four rivets securing the gray plastic Overrider covers to beam and remove covers.

Remove the three rivets securing the Splitter Vane to the to underside of bumper beam.

Often the Splitter Vane and Overriders are just broken of without removing the Front Bumper when fitting a mesh grille.

I just replaced mine. Just remove the 4 plastic doo-dads (on top of the overriders accessed via the hood up) that hold the 2 dark gray overriders in place and pull then out front ... then unscrew the chrome horizontal splitter ... it's easy as eating apple pie. Took me less than 30 minutes.

Without removing the front bumper?

Does anyone know for sure if this will fit a 97?

Any damage? As long as it fits, I will take it! Thanks!

My over riders were cracked so I actually broke them off but they're only held on by a couple plastic fasteners. You can feel their rounded head where they attach to the metal inner bumper. They can be pulled out with a flat head screw pushed under and worked out.
BUT! The aluminum overriders underneath don't come off so easily. They at riveted on. I cut mine off while front bumper was being worked on.
To replace the chrome bar, the plastic over riders have to be removed since it goes behind them, then replaced.

Correct. No need to remove the front bumper. Schedule 30 minutes for the job, 45 minutes max.

So would I need new overriders or can I use the ones that are already on my car?

You can reuse your overriders if they're not hopelessly damaged.

I didn't have to remove anything that was riveted ... for me it was just 4 little plastic doo-dads holding the top of the overriders in place and a couple of screws on the bottom side of the horizontal chrome bar.

The Splitter Vane part numbers are:

HJA6451BC from the first XK8 up to VIN A11050
HJA6451AB from A11051 to A40264
C2N2745 from A40265 to end

If philhef's VIN is below A11050, it will definitely fit.

I want to keep this particular car with the 100% stock look. My other one has the black mesh one piece grill, spoiler, exhaust, tinted taillights, chrome 20" wheels etc.

Anyone know where I can find one besides Ebay?

If not mistaken, I think you are missing part of the VIN. It's the numbers after the NA you want.
