Gather round chappies!
This should be a rouser. I am about to change the oil in Stiffie Bing (2000 XK8). Thought Id throw it out to the "droans club". What should I use for the sweet thing. Brand, weight, synthetic I gather but open to your experience

I use Shell Rotella 15w-40. With the high acid count on the blow by on these motors you need an oil that will hold up. Shell Rotella was developed for use in diesel motors and it is just whats needed for our motors.

FYI, you have just opened the proverbial "can of worms" in conjunction with "Opening Pandora's Box".

Oil threads always devolve into controversy and then are ultimately put a stop to. Enjoy it while you can.

Run WHATEVER oil you want. Change it regularly. You'll be just fine.

Ditto on the Mobil 1 Synthetic. Almost identical in a test I saw was the Penzoil Platimum Synthetic. Synthetic = less wear on start-up and I've proven, a small increase in gas mileage. Does the mileage ofset the extra cost? Maybe but I like the less wear part.

Use the viscosity suitable for your climate and whatever brand and type makes YOU happy. The car couldn't care less. Beware of marketing hype.

When my kids were young and we were poor, I ran advance auto parts brand for over 300k miles in our van and 250k miles in my TA. I changed them every 5k miles and never had a engine problem. If you change on schedule and do not drive in harsh conditions, ANY oil will do a good job.
My Volvo T5R is pushing 300k miles my vette was over 200k when I sold it and running strong, I used high mileage Havoline in them.

Though I would use a quality synthetic in a SC car.
