Default What's this? Under cowling

Ok so I was looking around at stuff today and noticed a honeycomb type thing under the windshield cowling. What exactly is it?

Possibly the extremely rare and terminally useless pollen filter:

Right up there with the chocolate teapot and motorbike ashtray.

Wow that looks exactly like it! I didn't think the US cars were supposed to have had the filters! Interesting and thank you!

Wow, a real pollen filter! Yours looks dirty, Rockauto has these for $11. Set aside a week to replace it.

+1

As you can see, it does trap "pollen". However, the X100 location is wrong on two counts:
1. hard work to access and replace
2. gets soaked with rain or even just vehicle washing

Not only are you safe to run without this filter, it's an actually upgrade to remove it.

Jaguar finally got it right with the subsequent X150 model where the activated carbon cabin filter is in a housing in the engine compartment. Two things noticeable on the later model:
1. efficient - it does trap a lot of dust and debris
2. expensive - last one I got from Jaguar was 48 UKP

Replaced it today in about an hour, give or take. Overall not really that bad of a job! I did find out that when my windshield was replaced, the screw covers must have snapped because all but one were held in with globs of black goo! Drrrrrr! I guess I'll order some of those smh
