Coming home tonight I realized I don't put my foot in it enough. It jumps pretty good for a 4000# car... P-)

So far this year after 81 fill-ups, 1117 gallons, and just over 26,000 miles
my gasprices.com fuel log shows 23.79 mpg (US gallons). It's dropped from 24+ since I put taller tires on it back in August but that just shows less miles for the same distance driven. I haven't bothered to do the % correction on those miles but I do like the better ride of the 235/55-17 over the 245/45-17 that were on it when I got it..

Not bad for a 97. It sounds like I might see a benefit to changing plugs but I don't think I'll get 3 more mpg out of this one. I couldn't tell you if they've ever been changed.

Most of my driving is four hour stretches of I-5 twice a week. I have seen 69 mph average speed on the computer but usually it's in the 50s. The mileage drops accordingly with average speed. The fellow who posted an average speed of 35 has mileage that shows these are 4000 pound cars and start/stop driving will eat a lot of fuel as well as the number of cold starts on a tank.

YMMV P-)

Mike

We have to toss Jochem00's data....he only drives in tunnels.

Have to agree with Xeno....mine is in Sport mode all the time....and in fact it was a discussion with my next door neighbor about the 'glories' of his new Golf Diesel that will get 55mpg that motivated me to go out and buy the XKR....for less than half the price of his new Golf....I am still laughing.

Figure I can buy fuel for the next ten years on the price differential.

OregonJag; I am in awe of his record keeping, must be an engineer for Boeing, if Shackelton had him on board they never would have been stuck in the first place.

Or is that ship on Lake Oswego?

cheers,

jj

+1 on the capital investment vs fuel strategy.

Engr, just not for the big B. Interesting to watch the bumps in the data after something is changed.

The ship is on Lake Lahontan. Currently known as the Black Rock Desert.
Used to be my golf cart, now it's too tall to go under power lines.
..but it does fold up and fit in the horse trailer... )*(

I will just add my experience to the list of those already posting.

My 2001 will average between 23-24 mpg on the hwy provided I keep my foot out of the firewall. Not bad for a performance car with a double OH cam engine. Its small but mighty.

Crappy--mostly because the majority of driving that I do in a give week is 4 miles to work and 4 miles back home on stop-and-go city streets. If that is the only driving I do then the average turns out about 13-14 mpg. If I manage to do a couple of higher speed freeway trips between fill-up, the average is more like 17-18 mpg. When I am on the freeway at steady speed the computer indicates I am getting about 23-27 mpg (depending).

These figures are just a bit worse (in all categories actually) than my 1995 Corvette which had almost 100 cubic inches more.
