The two nuts (item 7) on the Checkarm (item 3) which prevents the door opening fully against the front wing can work loose and create a clicking or 'popping' noise as the door is opened or closed.

Although not mentioned in the Service Schedules, the Checkarm should be lubricated with grease to reduce friction and keep it quiet.
As I wrote in post #2, failure of the Checkarm is unusual on the XK8/XKR unlike the X300 and X308 where having them rip completely out of the door frame is a regular issue.

Attend to it soon. Common on the X308 and it progresses rapidly to complete failure resulting in tears in the door skin.

As my door check assembly doesn't have any visible cracks and after reading sometimes it is just the bolts that come loose and make the popping noise, are any of screws or bolts easy to access without taking the door or panel off to see if it's a quick easy fix? Such as figure number 7 in the picture?
