Why was a 4.0L badge used on the front cover of my 2003 with 4.2L engine? The seq. # is A30056. Could there have been an excess of 4.0L badges that needed to exhausted before going to the 4.2L as installed on later cars? There does not appear to have been a collision repair or other work on the front. Any ideas would be welcome.

 

Probably fell off, was cracked or got stolen at some point and the PO replaced it with an incorrect badge.

But the bigger question is how a 5L V8 engine found its way into an MGB.

 

Agreed. Someone stole the original badge and the previous owner wasn't detail-oriented enough to catch the difference when he found a replacement badge on eBay....

 

Well, that make sense. Thought maybe Jaguar, like some other marques, exhausted existing stocks prior to using the new badges. Since the car is early production (May 2002); seemed like a good argument also. :-)

 

It was probably a repair, remember the original owner paid 75k+ and I'd be pretty smoked if they didn't have the correct badging..
