Default Wider Tires

My 2003 XKR has factory 18 x 8 front wheels with 245-45-18 tires. Rear are 18 x 9 with 255-45-18. Looks like stepping up to 255-45-18 front and 275-40-18 rear would easily fit on existing wheels and be a bit wider.

Has anyone tried these sizes and can anyone think of cons to doing this?

Thanks!
Silver 2003 XKR Coupe

I run 255/40 and 275/40/18 on xkr wheels front and rear and they tuck just fine on my 96 sedan.
Cons=more expensive, less mpg due to increased rolling resistance and weight
pros=handle better, better traction, brake better, look better, make you look thinner
anything else
BTW I RUN NITTO INVO'S

Do you run 9" wheels all around, or the stock 8/9 setup? 265 is a lot of tire for an 8" wheel.

On my stock 18's I ran 245's up front, and 275's on the rear. AND that was with a +1 inch spacer, no issues

oops, fat fingered that one. I run a 255 in front and yes 8" front and 9" rear. also think a 255/45 would be too tall. On a XK the rear well is LARGE. And a taller tire to fill would look better. Say a 265/45. The best thing you can do is to look at the tire manufacturer spec thier tires at and compare because all size tires are NOT the same sizes as some of you may/may not already know

I would think a wider tire would handle worse with more sidewall flex and bulge. A wider tire on a wider wheel is a different matter.
