Default Window guide rail - RESOLVED

Having just replaced the door micro switch here in the UK using D2SW-3L3M (Which seems identical to the USA D2SW-3L3MS one) I now have a working door window again. Thanks to all for all the tips, especially on the 7mm socket needed to release the door handle bolt (which holds the lock cover - Which I noted had a clip that I had to force off to the inside of the door to free it) and how to position the new switch with the end of the lever pointing out to the throat of the door closer (having removed it so easily I had forgotten to take a picture of it first).

That said....Can anyone advise on how to get the window guide rail back on please? I can get it up to the top, ready for the screw to be inserted but when I try and turn it to align it for the bottom two screws to go in, it just isn't happening. When I took it out I recall twisted it slightly and It seem to "pop" apart.

I guess I amn't sure how the guide works and what it should be aligned to/with? Is it the silver block of metal** on the window that, perhaps, has a slot that then slides down the edge of this rail? Perhaps I should drop the window an inch or two for ease?

All help welcome, and a very early Merry Christmas (Happy Holiday season) to all when it comes.

Angus

Silver window block - Does this "thread"? to the rail guide?

Angus, does this help?

Hey don't forget you've got the other door to use as a reference. Second time to remove the door card takes about 1=10th as long mate.

If you need more, just ask. I'm sure I've got more window docs stowed away from the 1st time I did it too.

Johnken,

I hadn't seen those pictures (which speak a thousand words) before - I can see the guide rail should indeed insert into the metal block on the window, so will go try and finish the job armed with what you've shown me here.

Many thanks.

It is definitely tricky, and the position of the window, whether its more up or more down, makes it easier or harder.

There's more art/luck than science in getting the rail back into the block in my experience.

At the top of the rail guide is a rubber stopper. I hadn't even seen it (I left the rail in the door for ease) and it had slipped down an inch and thus it was stopping me getting the rail into the metal block. I slide it back to the top, dropped the window 5 mm (disconnected battery again) and then I got the guide inlace in a few minutes.

Adding this pic for completeness as it shows the Anti Rattle Buffer that was getting in my way. (Item 12 in top pic)

Angus, thanks.

Don't laugh, but after reassembling my passenger window once shortly after I got this car, that little anti rattling piece was left over! I couldn't face the thought of going through the disassembly/ reassembly again, left it in the glove box.

Guess I got lucky, never saw any negatives from that lazy/overwhelmed decision years ago.

Kudos to you!

John
