Default Windshield Jet Spray Pattern

Hello, my first post on this forum. Have looked at forum posts over the past years but just now registered..

My 2002 XK8 doesn't seem to have a robust spray coming out of the spray nozzles that are located on the windshield washer arms. It is worse on the driver's side. All three jet nozzles appear to be working but very limited spray pattern. I have tried cleaning them with a pin just to be more sure but didn't seem to help much. Maybe this is normal? Or perhaps I should try replacing one of them to see the difference. I found a replacement jet nozzle part for about $35. It looks like they can be replaced by prying lightly on the top part of the jet nozzle assembly to release it from the wiper arm - but maybe someone has some experience on this.

Also, do your XK8's have an air deflector attached on the drivers side windshield wiper arm? Mine does, but I don't see it in the parts catalog. I am wondering if that might be part of the spray problem on the driver's side, and I will remove it if it is non standard..

Welcome to the forum CTXK8,

The jet nozzles are silicone "duckbills". The idea is that if the system is initially operated in freezing temperatures, the 'duckbill' nozzles flex allowing any frozen residual washer fluid to be ejected under pump pressure. The disadvantage is that silicone does get gummed up with evaporated washer fluid residue. I've successfully used an aerosol of compressed air with a straw delivery tube (sold for cleaning keyboards) to blow them clear after disconnecting the feed tube.

If they are too far gone, you are correct that the nozzle assembly is simply clipped together on the wiper arm.

A single Air Deflector is a standard fitting and is listed in JEPC:

Here it is on my RHD 2005 XK8:

I had the same problem .Different car but maybe the same setup . Ended up being 2 issues. The washer pump had some gunk at the pickup in the reservoir and the tee fitting where the supply lines separate was slightly clogged .cleaned them both and wow what a difference .stay away from the cheap blue washer fluid .it degrades fast .I use the rainx bug wash and have had zero problems with it. I have even used the Windex refill. A little pricey but it sure cuts the ice

I also thank you Scott for the info. I just returned from the big Jag show in Santa Barbara and on the way home discovered that my washers were not working right at all, barely spraying the bottom half of the windscreen, mostly on the driver's side. Now I have some notion how to address the problem.

Thought I would mention that using compressed air to blow out the tubes helped.

Thanks.....

The x type and s type are similar I believe...if your washer fill is passenger side front then the easy way to get to the pump is remove the right front tire and then part of the wheel well liner...roll the liner up...there it is
