Default Windshield Washers not working

On a road trip last weekend I ran out of washer fluid. The fluid had been pumping out fine and then suddenly stopped. I filled the tank with a gallon of wiper fluid but it still acted as though the tank was empty. No fluid came out the tubes when activating the washer. I did find a couple of other threads relating to this. I think my first move is to check the 'connectors' in the washer hose along the route from the tank to the wiper blade. I have not looked for these yet and am wondering if any of you have experienced this concern and if yes, how many connectors are there and where are they located. Any advise would be appreciated.

Mine just did this as well and what i found were the two connectors under the cowl (under the wiper arms) were clogged with black "crud". These connectors are one way valves. To clean them I inserted a nail into the the side coming from the tank and pressed the valve down and then used canned air to blow out a ton of crap. Also while they were off i activated the washers to push ot any black stuff in the lines. They work like a charm now.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check that out.
