Windshield wiper spray nozzle and refinishing.

Windshield wiper spray nozzle and refinishing.
windshield wiper spray nozzle- is there a trick to removing it?
I made a blunder head mistake and the hood closed with the drivers wiper sticking out and it broke.
I need to buy a new one, not so bad at 57.00 but that is wiper arm only.
the nozzle is 72.32 plus the hose at 11.00 and the 4" plastic strip clip to hold the hose against arm is 7.50 and nut cap at 4.00.
I prefer to take stuff from old and put on new, but can't seem to get the nozzle off and since it is plastic don't want to make gouge prying it off,
if there is better or correct way to remove.
Also since drivers side will be new what about spray painting the passenger side to make look new.
Does spray paint work or does it look like it has been spray painted?
I assume a flat black spray paint is the correct color and sheen to try matching best possible way.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Keith pioneered this on his Dorchester Grey door trims and I then adapted it to the Satin Black door trims on my 4.2. You could use the same process to refinish your wiper. See Post 21 in the thread for the preparation and materials used.

OK, so now how long until I'm a
Veteran member?
Ok I have found all my answers for the wipers.
The sprayers ( small square at top third of wiper arm) just carefully pry off with thin small screwdriver, there is no real hinge so it will just pop the cover but is still just one piece .
I found SEC black trim paint at automotive paint store along with a purple 3M abrasive pad for scuffing (similar to 400 grit sandpaper but more pliable and much easier to use).
I have now repainted all pieces and heck they look brand spank in’ new.
This is a good and easy job for anyone to make their wipers look new again.
Makes a big difference from the scratched or sun faded appearance.
Funny thing is after you remove both wiper arms sit inside and take a look at how clean and neat the appearance is from windshield and the hood. Wish we did not need wipers thing are not exactly a pretty option, once you remove you will see what I mean when you look out from inside. Necessary evil though, I suppose!
One other good hint is:
be careful when removing the wiper arm from the motor spindle that hold it on with the help of a bolt.
Use some WD40 and let sit for 10 minutes to help the most likely rusted bolt and even after bolt is off the arm can still be fused to the motor spindle, then use the round end of a small ball peen hammer and tap the spindle in the center to separate corrosion and wiggle pulling up .
Use a thick sponge or towel to protect paint and plastic cowl.
It really pretty simple to do and takes about 1 ½ hours with drying time. Just be patient and don't try to go to fast. You'll be happy you took the time.

refinished wiper arms.
Pictures of refinished wiper arms.
Notice the picture of car without the wipers, very clean look.
In Arizona there is not much rain so I'am actually not going to put them on for awhile, I like the view from inside.
I will wrap them and put in trunk just in case though!
This is a great weekend project for anyone.

As written by Mitchell
Honestly with Rain-X you practically don't need wipers except in extreme conditions. I've thought of doing the same thing, but I would like a cap for the wiper arm posts.

wiper motor post and water jet protectors.
Ok for those that are considering "no windshield wipers".
Go to Ace hardware or Depot and get some screw covers for the water jets and wiper motor posts. About .40 each at Depot .70 Ace Hardware.
They are very soft rubber like covers they will help protect water jets from wax or anything clogging them and help protect the motor post from damage or rust. They just push on and mold around the posts or Jets. Easy on easy off.
Get the green covers (¼")for the posts and the black (1/8") covers for the water jets.
Rough them up a bit with 3M pads and spray paint with same paint used for wiper arms.
I would put a bit of lithium grease or something similar (Thick) on the posts to help protect against rust and help the wipers to slip on easy in future.
Then use a good glass protector like Rain-X or better yet Aquapel to help if you ever get caught in the rain.
Wrap wipers in bubble wrap to protect and place in trunk just in case!
Of course you have just refinished them and don't want any scuff marks!
You will Love the look of no wiper blades to obscure the view.
Guaranteed!
If I lived in south Florida I'm not sure this would be a good idea!

Can anyone confirm that the procedure used by Vettegood for removing the sprayer assembly from the wiper arm is also correct for my '98 XK8? The quote from his post above is "The sprayers ( small square at top third of wiper arm) just carefully pry off with thin small screwdriver, there is no real hinge so it will just pop the cover but is still just one piece." Photos of my sprayer are attached, but I am reluctant to pry on it without confirmation. Thanks!
