Default Wood dashboard conditioner

Hello Cats,

Does anyone know of a good product to condition the wood dashboard in
an XK8?

No need for a wood conditioner...the wood in the xk is heavily coated with a polyurethane UV resistant coating. You basically have plastic coated wood. No wood conditioner will penetrate the coating, but instead will sit on top.

Exactly. I guess what you can do to address minor scratching or scuffing is to use a gentle polishing compound.

What you want to do is apply a UV protectant. I use Meguires NXT paint finish protectant available most anywhere.

Thanks guys,

My dash is not cloudy but seems dry looking under the coat in a couple spots. I talked to a guy from British wood http://www.britishautowood.com/steeringwheel.html that does refinishing for all the wood on an XK8 for about $900. He said it takes about three weeks. Does that sound like a fair price?

He does exceptionally nice work and has a good reputation. I have one of his shifter knobs and it is really a quality item.

That being said, you may be able to find a replacement used set on ebay, or from a used parts dealer for less. Also check the for sale lisitngs in the forum for people parting out their cars. Since it is a cosmetic item, I would ask for closeup photos and/or a return policy before buying used.
