Default Wood Panel Repair

When I bought my Jag a passenger side airbag panel had a hairline crack top to bottom. I had it repaired twice since by Heritage Woodworks. They did a good job and second repair was at no extra charge. Low and behold the crack is there again. I am thinking I should start looking for a replacement panel, looks like there is a structural issue that causes this to happen. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Your problem is going to be getting a match.

The 5 individual sections of the dash wood are a set where the grain pattern is continuous from one side to the other.

If you look at the Instrument and Centre panels on my 2001, you can see where the grain pattern on the left side of the Instrument section follows on into the centre section.

Dash wood is almost always sold as a set for this reason.

I happened to see this earlier today on ebay, I thought you might want to take a look. It seems too good (and too cheap) to be true. It is ebay item number: 130714067097

I know comparing prices in different parts of the World can be misleading but I see dash sets on eBay UK at around £120 ($187) so that US auction at $257 doesn't look out of order..............

Looks like a decent price and looks like they are 'book matched'. They are also for the correct 'year span' of your Jag. Hard to tell from the small photos, but they seem to be in decent shape.

I am looking for the same thing, I replaced the Sat Nav with the Center 3 Gauge. However, mine is a 2001 (the one with the hazing/fading problem) and the part #'s for the 1999 and earlier, don't match up with the 2001. The one's that I have found so far are in the $400 range.

So I am still looking.

Thanks everyone. I did see the above mentioned item on EBay. Unfortunately one of the panels is damaged. Which means that I would still have to send it out for repair.

Dash sets do swap over on all years regardless of age, the differences were slight, later cars had an airbag light in the passenger panel, early cars did not, but I have fitted parts from an 05 car into a 96 if you to go to the extreme, the main difference was I beleive all the later cars came with satnav, did not matter on this car as we painted the panels so the centre 3 gauge was retained.

This particular early XK was accident damaged and the air bags had gone off taking out the windshield, we changed the lot as the rest was a bit messy with cracks and peels, looked good when completed
