Default Working temp Gauge

Looks like my winter project will be to install whatever is needed to get my temp gauge working correctly. It seems that the factory set up just moves the needle up to half way and stops. Does anyone know where to get the kit and what is involved in installing it?

XK8 / XKR / XJ RealGauge - TheJagWrangler

While not a problem with the kit a comment from my install is that another common XK8/R issue is that the reach/tilt function of the steering column fails in some manner. My reach function failed at about mid range. Removing the instrument panel was a serious problem because of the steering wheel clearance. Got it done without serious problem but was at the point of removing the steering wheel or fixing the reach problem.

Other than that the install was easy.

Another unrelated comment to Steve's excellent product is that is the reason I installed the RealGauge was that I replaced the plastic radiator to water pump piece that contains the temperature sensor. The sensor included in that purchase was defective or at least out of specification and had to be replaced again. The use of an laser temperature tool was needed to resolve the issue. Even the second sensor's resistance put the RealGauge at the high end and needed adjustment. Thankfully, Steve's designed just such an adjustment into his product.

I opted for the oil pressure mod also. I hate meaningless gauges.

+1 on both the RealGauge upgrades. Steve makes quality products and is very responsive if you have any questions. Highly recommended.

Test point, or anyone, if you'd like to move the steering wheel for the install or whatever reason, but your switch doesn't work, I can show you how&where to connect 12volts to move it safely for the job, or even to plug the 2 position extremes into the 2 memory buttons.

I got so fed up with the non functioning tilt/telescope that I installed 4 micro switches each of which moves the wheel in one of the directions (up, down, in,out). Hooked it to an ignition source so I can adjust while driving.

Anyway, just ask if i can help I will.

While you're waiting for delivery of your Realgauge to resolve the issue, you could use this temporary fix:

Another vote from me - I have both gauge upgrades and am very happy. It's an excellent kit, superbly packaged and put together.

John, thanks for the comment but my problem is the reach motor drive cable. I'll get to it as soon as I get caught up with the rest of life.
