Default Worn front cross member

Hi all: Just got my new to me 2000 jag xkr out of winter storage. Did not have much time check it out before i put it away. Anyway i have a clunking noise when backing up and breaking. Upon inspection it appears the front cross member that the upper control arms are attached to is badly worn on both sides. Does anybody if there is a repair for this or do i need to replace the cross member. Thanks

Thanks mat. I whish i was so lucky that a control arm would fix my problem but the problem is with the cross member / frame that the bolt goes through to hold the upper control arm on. It is worn oblong and loose on both sides.

Buy 1 from a junk yard and unbolt the calipers, motor mounts and upper shock mounts (along with mayve a clipped line or tube i dont remember everything.) you have to support the engine from the top. Unbolt the subframe and drop out the whole assembly. Then its just a matter of swapping parts. And while its oout, i would rebuild the suspension

This subject appeared in a Jaguar magazine article in the UK. It is caused by the inner wishbone bushes that should move with them as the suspension works, seizing up and the suspension forces are such that the long bolt holding it all together, (which should not move at all !!), starts to rotate in the subframe, thus causing wear and rendering it scrap when the owner, (usually the next one), finds the problem or is told about it by the MOT vehicle examiner. (MOT is the Government roadworthiness certificate in the UK).

Make sure the secondhand subframe is good in this area, as well as rust free, (or is it aluminium ?)
