Default Worth the troubles?

My car is running perfect. Is sorting out this Jaguar worth it? Yes.

I hear dating a supermodel has its low points also.

........But that doesn't keep people from doing it.

except where the XK8 / XKR's are concerned. They are like a supermodel, but with character.

Smile '98 XK8 Updating

We just put a new top on our baby shortly after a new paint job. Final project in June is new leather seats. Runs great, 83,000 miles. We are in Deerfield Beach, FL.

Questions... Where did you get the top done and how pleased are you with their work? And, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost for the top and install (and I assume you got a new headliner as well)? I don't need one quite yet but you never know....

Thanks!

...it took me a while to understand the difference between "being a character" and "having character".

Having character is like having a reputation, if it's deserved, it never goes away.

PS as far as my XKR in concerned, 2 years and 31,000 miles later...... yes it's worth it, and then some.

We just had new leather put on the shells. Had to switch the passenger seat to driver side because some issue with the underside of the seat...don't remember what it was at the time. No problem, looks great and works fine.

We got the top from German Auto Tops, N. Hollywood, CA. Cost of top, a dark beige Twilight Twill II from a Mercedes sample book, underliner and shipping was $725.00. We had the car painted first. Cost was $1,100.00 ( job was ok but we thought it could have been better). We had the seats done by a local guy, recommended by a guy in my office, who works out of his garage. He recovered the seats over the shells, recovered the console, installed the top including having the back window removed and reinstalled by a company that does that work. His total labor cost was $2600.00 including the leather for seats and console. Miscellaneous costs including a new cupholder (waste of money for a piece of trash...I now use two nickels sawed in half and wedged into the release latch to hold it closed). You should estimate between $4000 and $5000 to do it, depending upon the quality of the paint and paint job, the top material etc.

Would I do it again...yes in a heart beat. Before the job the car was worth $2-3000, now probably $5-7000. Won't be a money making deal, but when I drive it is a great feeling. Now have about 85,000 miles on it.
