59.

Chronology of rides - not a complete list:

1957 MGA, 1969 E-type, 1973 Alfa GTV, 1973 & 1976 HD XLCH (with no kids)

Pontiac Sunfire (ugh!), Honda Accord (2) & a few Audis (with kids & mortgage)

2001 XK8 & 1969 Ducati 450 (kids grown, house paid for)

See the pattern?

This is worrisome thread, tending to a bit of bragging about who got what when.
Does it matter?
Please enjoy, life is too short to quibble!

Harry,

I'm afraid I hate to argue but I must protest at your post. It is nt right or correct to comment upon someone because of their ability to purchase something at a younger age than most. I personally have been lucky to be in a well paying profession, as previously stated gained through hard studies and work!

Secondly I think you'll find that most here did not come here to brag, this is a jaguar forum, where like-minded individuals come to discuss their passion in their car.

I don't wish to disagree with you but must admit I find your position on this personally offensive!

Anyway I've said my piece and hope there are no hard feelings, let's move on from this and as you said, enjoy!

Cool

I joined the US Navy at 17 years of age just out of high school and retired at age 39 with 2 children still at home, one still not of school age. Over the next 19 years I worked at several different jobs and finally retired fully at age 58. Now I march to no ones orders except my own and do what I want to do, when I want and don't care what anyone else thinks of me. I have had many cars over the years that I wish I had kept not just because of how much they would be worth now, but because they were so much fun to drive when I owned them. In 2010 I sold my 1967 Dodge Charger that I had owned for 42 years and don't regret it one bit as I believe it was time for it to go to a new home and for me to move on to something different. In 2007 I bought my 2003 Jaguar X-type and still enjoy it, but it's getting a well deserved rest in the garage now since I bought the 1997 XK8 a week and a half ago. I will still enjoy the X-type when we take long road trips since it has a little more room for our luggage etc., plus it gets a lot better gas mileage. The XK8 is my replacement for the Charger and is my fun car. Everyone here locally is really impressed with it since it is the only one in town. They can't believe it's a 1997 and many think it is a new model because of the condition of the body etc. I buy what I want, when I want and could care less about other peoples opinions of me. I don't do things to impress others I could care less what they think. I do things for my own pleasure. I've earned everything that I own or have owned. I owe nothing to any bank and if I have borrowed in the past to buy something it's always been paid back in the shortest amount of time at the lowest interest rate available. In addition to the 2 Jags I own a 1964 Triumph Bonneville T120R which I bought new 48 years ago in Atlanta, GA and have no plans to part with it. I'm 73 soon to be 74 years young and plan to enjoy my toys for a few years more.

Totally agree with Severniae and Green Machine and I would think the vast majority of people,if not all, on this forum have worked hard in their lives and have deserved their cars whatever their own circumstances may have been. Having younger members allows us to impart valuable information that inturn will help keep these cars on the road and go on to earn classic status in their own right.
We should now get back to the original thread and embrace all XK8 owners whatever their age might be.

Well said. Enjoy your cars, guys, whether you are 18 or 85....

I'm 58, but my mind says I'm 18 and unfortunately my left knee says I'm 85....

This is just one of those things I've learned in my wee bit of time on forums (about 15 years; I'm 25). I found talking money is a great way to tee off or alienate people.

BTW - I can't think of any X100s that are still worth anywhere near 90k USD. I bought my 2000 XKR Vert at 23 in 2010 for $10.5K (book was $15k). Jaguars are noteworthy for how fast and steeply they depreciate, even among luxury marques.

Default 54 & Holding

It seems like most of the Jag drivers are older....in these parts anyway.

The big 70 here, wife is 52 so that keeps me young. Now it takes me all night long to do what I used to do all night long. Traded off a 75 Stingray for the 1998 XK8 I have now. Got tired of banging my shins getting in and out. Just had an after market cd/hd radio installed, replaced all the speakers, added a sub base and 2 amps. Sounds really great. Waiting on a set of 20 in. Verde Kaos chrome rims that I ordered yesterday. Most fun car I've ever owned, and I have had plenty. 1st car was a 42 chevy. Wife wants to kill me. Says I'm too old for this s---. married 40 years so I think she's bluffing. I hope.

61.
I always wanted a Jaguar from when I first started to drive the winding roads of Cornwall in S W England.
My boss had an E Type, a Healey 3000 and an Aston Martin DB 4. Took them out a few times....the deal was you bend it, you mend it.
He was a very generous car addict.....
Where did the years go.
So I finally thought I should get one while I am still able to get in and out of it.
I love my XKR. Should have done it years ago. I never get tired of driving it. It fits like a glove, and turns heads no matter where I go.
Most of all, after a few road trips I also think my wife is starting to understand!
