Default XK8 Action Shot: Thanks to UK Police!

Thought I'ld post the Speed Camera shot of my car so kindly provided by the UK police!

Note the useful data also indicated.

Also a useful shot of the aftermarket HID lights.

Taken from a white van at the side of the road.

Luckily I was going slow enough (in a 70mph zone) to have speed awareness training, instead of 3 points and a £60 fine.

(For none UK drivers 12 points = a driving ban)

Ouch! Good shot, though I love these modern PC expressions like "speed awareness training".

"Do you know what speed means and why it can be dangerous?"

"Yes"

"OK, that's your training over then"

Did the training help?

Isn't it unfair that your car, which was designed to go fast, and handle well, has to follow the same rules as a 1964 VW Beetle or a 14 ton box truck? I think speed limits should be vehicle dependent.

Oh... but that would be unfair to those who can't afford the fancy cars. We must treat everyone equally, regardless of their abilities. Never mind.

A friend went on a Speed Awareness Course, which he had to pay for.
The next week he got caught speeding again.......I told him to ask for his money back since the course obviously didnt work !

The Training was quite useful in reminding you how to tell the speed limit and what it was for other vehicles ie HGV/ Trucks Busses and Large Vans.

The other sobering thing is although by paying £85 for the course you avoid the 3 points and £60 fine, if you are caught speeding again in the 3 years after the course you get 6 points and a £120 fine. So yeah it can work in slowing you down.

The stupid thing is that the "accepted" speed on a motorway is 85MPH. Everone does it and the Traffic Cops want the Goverment to increase it to that.

By the way it was unlimited until someone took a race car up a motorway in the 70's. I am told at 200MPH in an AC Cobra I think , then the 70MPH limit came in.

Reverend Sam in the UK speed limits are vehicle dependant, See 124 on the attached link.

Control of the vehicle (117-126) : Directgov - Travel and transport

Now we just need to add a section for "performance Cars" with unlimited for the limit on motorways

I got a three month ban for 115 on the M6 around 1990.
I beleive AC Cobra got the blame (credit) for the introduction of the limit but there are reports of several factories using the M1 as a test track and the real reason was more likely an attempt to reduce the accident rate.

Are the IOM and Germany the only places left now without a limit?

I believe the Colony of Montana still has no limit. Forty years ago I averaged 97 mph from Fargo, North Dakota to Billings, Montana (including time stopping for gas and food) in my 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible. Ah, the "good old days", and yes, I do wish I still had that car.

How did they ID you? - I don't see a license (number) plate (I'm guessing it's on the hood, but that's hidden in the glare)

Steve

The white band above the mouth is a UK Numberplate, they normally sit across the teath but I use an adhesive one instead to improve the aesthetic + cooling.

I painted out the lettering before posting it.

Reckless driving is way more dangerous than speed driving . In certain cases like when the traffic flow is low unlike rush hours speed limits should be increased , so changeable speed limits should be way to go rather than constant speed limits .

Wasn't it in the UK that a Porsche 911 owner successfully pleaded not-guilty to a massive speeding ticket/driving ban a few years ago, because he was able to prove that his ceramic brakes could slow his car down so quickly?

I got done for 79mph (limit 70)at 1am on the M3 (highway from London to the west for non UK) 30th of the month, basically told they were short on quota. No other traffic on the road.

But were you done for the numberplate? Its illegal to mount it there as its an MOT failure, I was stopped a few years ago and had to have the car re MOT'ed because it was on the bonnet.

No I,m told its only illegal if you mount it on the bonnet, but not the nose cone, something to do with distance from the ground I think.

Also you can't buy "compliant adhesive plates" since 2002, in an attempt to keep the spacing correct and stop people spelling out stuff on the plates.

I have passed 2 MOT's since it was put on.
