Default xk8 computer

Carl is new to this site and would appreciate your help. My mechanic has told me that the computer in my 2001 xk8 is shot. Can anyone provide me with contact info on where I can get it repaired or reprogram a replacement for me? I have the current unit and reside in the USA (Alabama). Thanks!

Hi,
What symptoms do you have, and what has led your mechanic to believe that the ECU is faulty?

Thanks for the quick reply

This all started one night as I left a local grocery. The car started and ran for several seconds then stopped. This happened 2-3 times. I had the car towed to my regular garage (been using them almost 30 years) where they told me the fuel pump quit and they would send the car to another shop. There the mechanic said he replaced the fuel pump and found that the computer (ECU) was “fried” . I got no real explanation. He got a used one but could not find any place that would/could make it compatible with my car (the Jaguar dealership in Mobile doesn’t work on cars made before 2010).

I finally got the ECU and am trying in this forum to locate either someone who can check it out and do the compatibility, or a new ECU that will work in my car.

Mmm. I wonder if that means that the replacement fuel pump didn't fix the problem.... Is this second garage familiar with Jaguar cars? I would want to know what is meant by 'Fried' ( meaningless), and it doesn't sound as if the garage really knows what it is doing. Ask what DTCs have been thrown by diagnostics to support this.

TBH, you would be better retrieving the car and letting an indy who specialises in Jaguar do an inspection before throwing any parts at it. The ECM/ECU would be near the bottom of my list of suspects.

Yeah, I would be really sus at a shop who simultaneously threw a fuel pump at (any car really) and then proceeds to make a huge statement that the computer is fried. I don't know of anyone in your area, unfortunately. If you were closer to VA I'd surely help. I'd say as you are searching, do as you have done already, and come here for some 2nd, 3rd, and 15th opinions!

AJ27 ECMs rarely fail. They are generally reliable.
The 1997 ECMs do seem to need the capacitors replaced but all others are OK.
