Unhappy XK8 Convertible: Passenger side quarter light glass doesn't move

This is what I'm talking about:

XK8 Convertible: Passenger side quarter light glass doesn't move-ds8tb.jpg

Any advice as to how to check what's wrong/repair it?

The driver side one works fine.

Would bet it's the regulator. Seems to be a common prob on passenger side. It flexes and the cable pops off IIRC.

Prior to you getting so far involved into the repair I would first check the fuses and relays related to it. In reading your short description of what is going on “XK8 Convertible: Passenger side quarter light glass doesn't move” I checked your profile to see that you are talking about a 2000 xk8. It appears that the 1999 & 2000 had a problem with the rear quarter windows I would check with Jaguar to see if TSB 501-49 VIN 041998 – A07948 applies to your car.

Issue:

Some 1999-2000 MY XK convertibles, within the above VIN ranges, may experience customer complaints of failure of the regulator for the rear quarter window. It has been identified that the rear quarter window regulator assembly base plate may be made from a softer than normal metal. Although this material is within specification, it can lead to excessive flexing of the base plate, subsequently leading to the drive cable becoming detached. To eliminate this concern, a reinforcing bracket has been added to the bottom of the assembly to improve stability.

If a regulator fails, replace the assembly with the latest level regulator. The opposite side must also be checked for the latest level component and replaced if necessary.

It may also fall under the blanket of extended warranties if you have one. I hope this helps!

Thanks a lot!

Btw, where is the regulator, or - where can I find information about it? I've checked the technical manuals I have and didn't find anything. The Jag cds can prob help?

The regulator is the mechanical frame that the window is attached to allow the window to open and close.

I installed JITS on my other computer that has XP for the operating system and had no problems on the install. I have seen several posts with workarounds on the installing when it is a problem but I do not know what that is. I use AllData.com.

You are correct, XP mode (or some virtualized copy of XP like VMWare Player [which is free]) is the only way to get it to work with 64 bit Windows 7.
