Red face XK8 Convertible Ride

Hi,
I'm new to the Jaguar Forum and hopefully you can help me.
I have just purchased a 2005 XK8 convertible and it has a very hard ride and I can feel every bump in the road.
It's fitted with 20" BBS Sepang wheels, which I know will harden the ride but can I make any other adjustments to soften the ride, as I only want it for cruising?
Looking under the car it is fitter with non standard green springs, so it looks as if someone has tinkered with it in the past.
Thanks
Martyn

Welcome,
Sounds like your ride has been modified. To get the softer ride you will need to put softer/factory spring on. A bit of work for sure.

Your car has definitely been modified. I drove a 2005 xkr coupe with the R handling pack and 20 in wheels with Michelin pilot cup sports on rough patched roads and it was just as compliant as my 2002 XKR, and a stock XK8 would be more so.

+1 sounds like its modified.

My blue cat (01 XK8) with 18" wheels rides very smooth, especially at speed. Some cowl shake over bumps, but definitely not a jarring ride.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I thought as much but I still think it's worth getting done as otherwise all my fillings are going to fall out.
Regards

Welcome to the forum Martyn,

I've gone from:

1. 2001 XK8 Coupe : 18 inch Impeller
2. 2005 XK8 4.2-S Coupe : 20 inch Sepang
3. 2007 XK Coupe: 19 inch Carelia

The difference in ride between the 20 inch Sepang and the 18 inch Impeller was extraordinary. The 2005 car was a much harsher ride.

Now back on 19 inch with my current XK, I'll not be venturing into 20 inch territory again. The Sepang is a beautiful wheel but the low profile tyres were too much of a comfort compromise.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.
