XK8 convertible top motor/pump
The convertible top motor/pump is bad in my 2004 XK8 convertible it keeps blowing fuses. Has anyone any experience with these. Can these motor/pumps be rebuilt?
There is a good chance the transient voltage suppressor component built into the motor has failed. One of our forum members has documented the repair here: XK8 Convertible Top, Fixing the Motor
That happened to my pump/motor and, luckily, the vehicle was still under the extended Jaguar warranty. Pricing on this piece-of-gold was listed at about $2K but none were available. The Jaguar dealer ended up getting one from somewhere.
I think there is a thread on here somewhere (by Dennis?) that describes what is causing the fuse to blow (transient voltage suppressor?) that is apparently a cheap easy fix that you can do yourself. Otherwise you can probably bring it into some electrical shop to fix.
