Living in the desert Southwest, the sun can get pretty serious through the back window of the coupe, and I've been searching for an easy mod or fix to cut down on the hot sun coming in while maintaining good rearward visibility and not spending a lot of money. Remembering how much I love the looks of the Lamborghini Miura, I wanted to simulate the look of the louvers on the rear window. I didn't want to just do a tint job, but something different and easier to apply while not hindering visibility day or night. I found some wonderful exterior trim tape, 2" wide with a matte black finish, and what you see is the end result of only about one hour's work outside the car. This trim tape is available in several colors, as I recall. VERY easy to apply - no bubbles. I think it really reins in that big rear window. In focus it looks much better ! I really like the look from the back. Budget Miura! Spaced about 1-1/4" apart, trimmed with exacto blade As cool looking as this is, you don't see it in rear-view mirror. Visibility very good.
In the US I could completely black out the rear window legally, as long as I have left and right outside mirrors. Now I don't have to worry so much about the desert sun frying my back seat leather or heating up the interior so much in summer. I'll consider that a 'win', but I won't be doing this on my '63 E-Type coupe, since the rear window is perfect as-is.
