Hello, ECU repair shops, didn't found anything in Canada for 1997 Jag XK8 ECU repair... So, in US, would you suggest "ASI" in Tenessee or " Module Experts " in Florida ?????
^^
What has led you to the diagnosis that it is faulty?
Burn marks at two places on the circuit board of the ECM . Since mechanic had checked and/or changed all parts that could be in trouble, my last thought is the ECM.... Car is like " possessed"...

I literally just fixed my own ecu this past weekend. Since you have it out and opened up already, save a ton of money and do it yourself. There are a total of seven capacitors, and four values of them(resistance/voltage) I’ll list them at bottom of post. Your board is clearly showing signs of failed capacitors, mine looked a little better than that. 99 percent of the time the capacitors can be identified as bad due to a bulge on the top. NONE of mine had the bulge, but every one leaked from the bottom. I changed all and it’s good now. As for your board, you will need to check the traces under that ugliness after it’s cleaned up…ie q-tips, rubbing alcohol and some patience. Use a magnifying glass, and check each one twice, finding each end of the trace and checking with a multimeter set on com setting. If any traces are bad they can be repaired easiest by a jumper wire, soldered to each point you tested at. I paid about 30 something dollars American for all the capacitors I needed and now have extras. Get double what you need for each in case something goes wrong. Capacitors and amounts are as follows(at least for my 97, but double check yours to be sure)
do not increase uf rating, but a higher voltage will work(although what’s there is best) and do not decrease temp rating
don’t waste your time changing only the one that looks bad. None of mine looked bad but after removing them all from the pcb board not a single one tested good. Any questions I’ll be glad to help
Wow, that's knowledge 🙂 Thanks a lot for your good explanation, I'll keep that in mind, but just today, shipped my ECU in Toronto CA for repair, I found a shop in Canada that is, to my feeling, worth a try. But, your experience could be very useful in a near future, thank you sir 🙂🙂🙂
Now, in order to diagnose the cause; with the car key in 2nd position, *no ECU in car*, is the ECU fan supposed to be running ???? Mine is not running .... Could have been the cause ... ????

The ECM fan is controlled by the ECM, so it won't be running with the module removed, but check fuse #16 (5A) in the engine management fusebox as a precaution. Do confirm that the fan is running (ignition on) when you get the module back before putting everything back together.
The brown 'goo' on the circuit board is electrolyte that has leaked out of the capacitors. Most of it can be removed by gentle cleaning with isopropyl alcohol or similar.
There's likely no cause other than the capacitors themselves as they're way beyond their expected lifespan at 25+years. It's a common issue on the 97 ECMs.

Max $30 for components + easy job for an experienced person, so 1/4 hour to provide quote and total 1 hour labour should cover it.
Be interesting to see how much they charge you ? Of course you have to allow for the Jaguar (markup) factor
