Default XK8 Front Wheel Arch Loose Hose

Hi all, I was poking around the driver side (right hand) wheel arch of my 1998 XK8, looking for a dodgy grounding point when I saw this hose hanging out. It seemed to run across the engine bay to the coolant expansion tank? And the tank here in the photo seemed to have a hole in it which may fit it. Does anyone know if this is normal or if it's supposed to run into this clear plastic tank?

It needs to touch near or AT the bottom of the atmospheric catchment tank to draw coolant back into the system reservoir when the engine cools.

I would add coolant to the tank an reinsert the hose.

Oh fantastic thank you for the info. Should it be sealed with a grommet or anything?

Fill the tank to about 50% full with fresh coolant and push the hose in until it reaches the bottom. It should be cut at an angle so that it can't seal against the bottom.
