Okay, I know this has been covered in the past and there is even a post with step-by-step photos but, for some reason, the pictures no longer accompany the narrative, The tank in question is in a 2002 pre-facelift S-Type with the 4.0 engine. I need to disconnect the hose from the cooling tank to the heater core to remove the old tank. The new tank comes with the hose attached, so I could hopefully break the clamp, slide off the old hose and slide on the new one (I have the right hose clamp pliers, but the clamp is in the wrong position).
. I just need to confirm that I'm looking at the correct hose (see above).
I need to disconnect the hose from the cooling tank...
Is access any better at the far end of the hose? If so, disconnect that end and remove the tank and hose together as a unit. Then you can tackle that pesky clamp from the comfort of your work bench. Same goes for installation.
I think I would replace the hose along with the tank. It looks like it may be original to the car and a little extra money spent now is preferable to a costly break down at a later date...
Thanks for all of your replies and suggestions. I'm a bit under the weather today, but will see if I can remove the clamp which is somehow not angled to where I can use my hose clamp pliers. I'll probably break if off, slit the hose and get the reservoir out. As has been pointed out, the replacement has the hose attached. Then all I have to do is drill out and remove the three bolts I broke to move the cross-brace and put it all back together! The fun never ends....
Thanks motorcarman! I remember seeing that exact tool years ago, but unfortunately didn't buy it that time. I'm going to look for it online; one of those tools that you don't need until you do; should pay for itself in time saved in one use.
