Hey Guys,

So last week I changed the Fog Lamp bulbs to Osram Ultra Star H1 bulbs.

It appears that the Hi-Beams are the same bulb, H1.

Are they really the same bulbs and just the lenses for each lamp is different ?

I have a 2006 XK8 and the manual says the Fog Lamps are H3 bulbs not H1. Did you check that you actually took out H1 bulbs? How did the H1 bulbs work out?

Dips are H1 but not main?

Unless you have xenons of course

 

My owner's manual says: Dips (low beam) are H1; High beam are HB3; Front Fog Lamp (bulb) is an H3. But various posts and several lamp companies all say Fog Lamp Bulb is an H1. PIAA bulb chart says H3 first year (1997) but later are H1, so perhaps Jaguar changed and did not bother to correct the manual (mine is 2006).
I think I will order H1s and hope they are correct.

Huh? I am sorry, but that does not make sense to me (I do not understand).
You help a lot of people and give good answers so I do not mean to be disrespectful.
H1 plugs into a bulb holder, H3 plugs in somehow AND has a separate wire. The filaments are different (I think they run different directions so light patterns would be very different), the bulbs are different lengths. etc. And I doubt Jaguar would have made a Fog Lamp system that would require an adapter to somehow change an H1 into an H3. They would just use one or the other.
I am just a poor owner trying to figure out which bulbs to order so when I take it apart, I have the right ones to put back in, not wishing to take do it twice as it appears the Fog Lamp Assemblies are fairly difficult to get to.

Thread started out stating H1; he has same year as mine, I guess I will just go with that.
I wanted to check/confirm as it differs from my Owner's Manual.

That helps considerably. Thank you very much for that explanation and clarification; especially the pictures. I hope it was not too much work for you to make those photos.
I have ordered some H1 Long Life bulbs so I don't have to replace them too often as it appears to be a pain to do so.
