Default XK8 Improved Exhaust Note

I've had my 2000 XK8 since new and was never satisfied with the lack of an audible exhaust note. After years of doing nothing, I got the bug to "correct" the problem. I researched various systems to install, but my frugality got the better of me. Instead of spending $1000 + for a new system, I took my car to a local speed shop. We removed two of the mufflers and the anemic exhaust tips. New stainless pipe replaced the mufflers and new larger resonator tips replaced the old tips. The car sounds terrific. You can actually discern that there is a V8 under the bonnet! It's not loud and classless like so many of those little drift wanna be's, rather there is a nice exhaust note, not too overpowering. If anyone would like more details, let me know.

Which two did you replace? The rear two? Our systems have 5 mufflers stock. I recently redid my entire system from the catalysts back and two new mufflers for $550. Here is what I did: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=37811

seems you got the bug along with several others around the forums. It is nice to hear the engine now, I totally agree. There's another thread here with a similar attempt, but different procedure.

I made a similar modification. Dropped the last FOUR mufflers, replaced the crimped pipe running over the rear axles, and also the tips with new oval tips. Planned to return 2 last mufflers if my wife complained too much. Sounds more like a '60-70's muscles car when I really get on the accelerator(seldom). Noise is noticeable under heavy acceleration with windows/top up and AC on, but not enough to deter conversation. I have had other drivers follow me home to ask what I have in the car.

I am about to have the same thing performed. Do you have a video with audio of the car after the work?
