Hi,

I have a 2004 XK8 with the navigation system installed. I am having a problem with it. When I put the DVD in the unit it just says "cannot read from DVD...check disc". I am wondering if this is not a bad disc but a problem with the unit itself. I have a Denso 2003 version disc and can put it into a PC DVD drive and see the KWI files on it, so it seems to read just fine from the PC. I have cleaned the disc several times, and even made an ISO image of the disc and reburned it to a DVD + DL disc, still to no avail.

Has anyone else had experience dealing with this? Any recommendations?

I really didn't want to plop down $200 on a new disc from Navteq just to find out that there is a problem with the system.

I'm not sure from your post which DVD you are putting into the unit. A Denso disc won't work. I believe the 2004 model has an Alpine nav system installed. I'm using a 2004-release disc in my 2001 XK8, and it works fine. I thought Jaguar didn't switch to Denso until 2005, so I'm confused by yourstatement that you tried a 2003 Denso disc.

 

Need the Alpine disc!

 

Thanks to all of you that replied. My dealer gave me the wrong disc. They gave me the Denso model. Until I made this post, I didn't know that there were different discs.

The disc I have has the following print on it:

"Jaguar Navigation System: USA & Canada"

"This DVD-ROM for Jauguar Navigation System DVD Player only"

"Jaguar Part No. 1X43 10E898 BC"
"DENSO Part No. 464210-5220"
"(c)2003 DENSO CORPORATION"

I will order the Alpine disc.
